hey man!

saw your message on cgt. stuff looks good! i shall be honest with ya. for someone doing this for 9 months, this looks really good.

i have two major comments on this one.
1. overshoot and settle after the kicks - after kicking so fast, you might wanna over shoot a little and settle well and slowly to get that "alive" feel rather than "wood" feel to animations. timing and everything is good, only, after the kicks and stuff, settle him gently into poses, slow him in and stuff like that.

2. the guy getting hit by the wood, have a change of pose at the point of hit and stay there for some frames to have the "wood impact" clear on the audience. That is, may be raise him up on the toes after getting hit, u know, with knees bent inwards and all, that would make the impact look good.

other than that, good stuff!

on other shots,

1. girl walking and guy getting wooed, have a slight up and down in the girl. i know girls dont walk with up and down movement, but here, you dont have the body to show enough energy. you have to add a bit of up and down to show the energy flow. also, you need more tilts and rotations to make it really look like a walk. the guy should also be made to "look" before "flying". have him get on to one leg and really look towards the girl and follow her before anticipating a bit and flying in the air.

other stuff, i would like to see it polished before i comment. over all looking good, but major timing stuff needs to be adjusted.

for example, the weight lift, you could use some more breakdowns to show how heavy that is and the timing should not be even.

so, polish them and let me know!

keep going pal, your doing good!

yo man you really rock !!! it is just fantastic....probably this the right way to approach and learn animation....start with all this and then keep growing....i mean if you can tell a story with just a sphere with no eyes and all that .....

Prasad said...

....meaning just if you can tell it with just poses one can imagine what you can do with a completed character...lot's of luck...

Prasad said...

...just one question....where did you learned it ?...mind sharing it with me ?...

Hey Prasad,
Thanx a lot for your kind words man... this is really inspiring me to work more n more... as for my learning... i learnt animation at Takshaa and my mentor is Manu Ittina himself... and its all due to him and other faculty memebers i m improving bit by bit in this craft.

hey hi,

it's very funny. the "got'ya" kick pose after he scares the other guy and turns back, made me crack up!!

ok now, few things:
1. the grey guy breathing before he starts kicking in the air doesn't read. move the ball up while inhaling, and down and settle when exhaling so that it is clear enough that he's breathing.

2. the green guy has no reaction, when the grey guy starts kicking. for each kick you can add a little rotation and translate it backwards with the feet not moving, like he's scared.

3. at around 14 secs, when the grey guy jumps back to his starting position, you can make the green guy look at him following the trajectory.

same thing with the grey guy at 17 secs.

hey shiva,

man.... those are dammmm nice ideas which you gave me.... shit i really didn't think abt it that way.... oh boy... you are too cool man... now i guess i'll be able to take the animation to the next level... woooooow.... i still cant get over it, thinking about the "green guy looking at him and following the trajectory"... dats a super cool idea... right now i m working on a dialogue... but as soon as i finish this... i'll rework on the karate animation...

thanks a lot buddy...
u rock

all the best,
Chintan :D

okay..ill start off with the first kick..u cud use a little slow in and slow out...experiment by adding those extra keys..coz even though its a fast kick..it will hv some slow ins and outs..at the moment it luks as it stop suddenly giving it a very rigid feel to it..adding those extra keys might help it softening it out(its jus i cant watch the video frame by frame to analyze the spacing of ur kick) to me it luks a little rigid.
same goes for the second kick.

a lot of areas cud use some nice little subtle movements especially on the yellow belt while he is standing still. increase the tangency of ur curves a little bit in those areas to c if it works. take advantage of its squash controller.

the yellow belt can use some variety in the poses while he dodges the kicks each time..they r almost the same every time..make him duck, crouch or may be split his legs akshay kumar style :)but i think if u put some variety in there it will make it more interesting.

when the black belt make the reverse jump to his original position >> bend his toe outwards when he starts jumping(in the direction of the jump) ..and then overlap them with the overall action..rite rite they luk a little too stiff when he is upside down and flipping through in mid air.

Again when the yellow belt takes his antic to make his jump..add that slow in -out. u can get rid of that jerky feel.

I like the leg shivering part when black belt gets hit by the wood and that little twitch in the end.

overall the job is well done..with decent poses.
